Dr. Arif Mohammad Tanmoy, Associate Scientist at CHRF, was recently featured on “Research Digest”—a podcast hosted by Mr. Hasan Al Banna that highlights impactful scientific work and the people behind it.

In this episode, Dr. Tanmoy shared insights from his 2022 Nature Communications paper, “Paratype: a genotyping tool for Salmonella Paratyphi A reveals its global genomic diversity.” He discusses the global burden of enteric fever and emphasizes a critical gap: despite the high number of paratyphoid cases, there is still no vaccine—a consequence of limited research in the field.

He also highlights CHRF's role in creating a global dataset of nearly 1,400 isolates from 37 countries, including over 500 from Bangladesh, spanning more than a century. This unique dataset laid the foundation for Paratype, the first-ever genotyping tool of its kind developed by the Global South.

The conversation concluded with reflections on the importance of dreaming big and pushing past barriers in scientific research—values we carry forward every day at CHRF!
