Surveillance for suspected sepsis among young infants will entail both active and passive components. Active surveillance is based on frequent, scheduled CHW’s home visits to question caregivers and assess young infants for clinical signs of sepsis. Passive surveillance captures cases that present to designated health facilities due to parental care-seeking; caregivers are encouraged to seek care at such facilities if signs of illness arise between CHW visits.
